Meet Andy! Andy is a 13.3 hh grade Haflinger gelding in his mid-teens. He came to Haflinger Haven in the summer of 2025 from the Chicago area, where he was a therapy horse.
While Andy greatly enjoyed being a therapy horse, he has narcolepsy, and could no longer do his job due to the therapy barn’s insurance. This doesn’t stop him though!
Andy is a very sweet, in-your-pocket boy. He stands calmly while being groomed and saddled and offers all four feet easily. He doesn’t fully understand lunging, but he’s certainly willing to learn!
Because Andy used to be a therapy horse, he is most comfortable being ridden when someone is also walking with him on the ground. However, he will move away and ride independently with encouragement. He has a lovely walk/trot, but needs more muscle until he’s comfortable enough to canter. He will happily trot over poles! He does not buck, rear, or bolt.
Andy has no health or soundness issues (excluding the narcolepsy). He would be well-suited to an advanced beginner rider/handler.Â
Andy is available for an on-site lease, off-site lease, or foster.

Meet Bob! Bob is a 13.1 hh grade Haflinger gelding in his late teens. Bob came to Haflinger Haven in March of 2025 from Kentucky, and may have been a cart horse in a previous life.
Bob is very sweet and near-bombproof. (He will happily walk past people climbing on the tractor to fix the barn door in the dark!) He ties and stands to be groomed, picks up all four feet, leads and lunges well, and stands for mounting. He rides around on a loose rein but needs some refining, and will canter, but needs more muscle to be good at it. He does not buck, rear, or bolt.
Bob's only flaw is that he likes to talk when he's not with other horses (especially his husband, Nathan), but he works through it and it doesn't affect his ability to do his job at all! Bob would do best with an advanced beginner/intermediate rider.
Bob is sound for light riding due to his age. He is available for an on-site lease at Haflinger Haven.

Meet Captain! Captain is an approximately-20 year old, 13 hh grade Haflinger gelding. Captain came to Hafligner Haven in September of 2024 from Michigan, and may have previously been a lesson horse.
Captain is looking for someone to help him get fit and bulk up for bikini season. However, Captain is a bit stubborn and believes he's perfect the way he is, so he needs an intermediate+ rider and handler. He can be pushy on the ground, but will acquiesce to a confident handler.
Captain is very good on the lunge and will walk and trot under saddle but needs more muscle to canter. He has no buck, rear, or bolt, but will let you know if he is uncomfortable. He has Cushing's but is not on Equioxx, and will likely be much happier when he is in better shape. He could be a very good boy if someone can convince him that working can be fun!
Captain is available for an on-site lease at Haflinger Haven, an off-site lease, or for fostering.

Meet Lance! He is a 15 year old, 14.2 hh allegedly-papered Haflinger gelding (though papers have long since been lost). Lance arrived at Haflinger Haven in August of 2021 and has been a farm-favorite ever since.
Lance is an angel to groom and tack and a dream to ride. He has a lovely walk/trot/canter both on and off the lunge and is willing to hop over poles. He is very conscientious of his rider and will stop if they feel off-balance, but can be a little wiggly at times, so would be best suited to an advanced beginner rider and up. Lance has no buck, rear, or bolt.
Lance has chronic laminitis but has been sound for two and a half years, and has a benign keratoma in a hind hoof that does not bother him. He does however have fairly sensitive feet, so he does best in shoes. He was previously leisure ridden, and then turned out in a pasture when his previous owner became a mother.
Lance has a lot of potential to go in any direction. He is available for an on-site lease at Haflinger Haven.

Meet Major! He is a 14.3 hh mid/late teens grade gelding. He came to Haflinger Haven in July of 2022 for some rest and rehabilitation.
Major has been very well educated in his life but could use a refresher from an intermediate to advanced rider/handler. He can be pushy and grumpy on the ground, but will walk/trot/canter on the lunge and under saddle. He's a bit of a forward ride, but would likely settle with more muscle and consistency. Major has no buck, rear, or bolt.
Major had his right eye removed in early 2023, but was blind in that eye beforehand, so he is completely adjusted. He requires no maintenance and has no soundness issues, and does well either shod or barefoot.
Major could be a very fun ride for someone who wants to put in a little work. He is available for an on-site lease at Haflinger Haven, an off-site lease, for fostering, or adoption.

Meet Merlin II! Merlin is a 6 year old, 14.1 hh grade Haflinger gelding. He came to Haflinger Haven in 2024 to rehab for a suspected torn meniscus, but turned out to just be sore from snow pads and is now sound and no other health issues or maintenance.
Merlin is commonly called Good Merlin because he's such a good boy. He is easy to handle, stands to be groomed and tacked, and loves attention. Merlin went to baby school in 2025 and has been started under saddle, and has not offered a buck, rear, or bolt. He knows how to lunge and can walk/trot/canter under saddle, and would love a quiet, confident rider to continue his training.
Merlin could go in any direction and be successful in any discipline. He is available for an on-site lease at Haflinger Haven, or adoption to the perfect home.
